Tamworth Borough Council is inviting voluntary sector groups and charities to apply for grants from a £118,000 Community Recovery Fund. Applications close on 30 September.
The funding is available through We Are Tamworth, a crowdfunding initiative that combines community donations with council grants of up to £10,000 per project. The scheme ensures council money supports projects that have backing from local people.
Cllr Andrew Wells, portfolio holder for cooperative council, community partnerships and anti-social behaviour, said: "Tamworth has a thriving voluntary sector and we have a significant amount of funding available to support the amazing work being done in our communities. Crowdfunding enables us to direct those resources to projects that are built and backed by local people, for those who will benefit most."
Who can apply
The Community Recovery Fund is open to ideas that build and promote good relationships in local neighbourhoods and strengthen bonds between people of all backgrounds and ages.
Projects already funded
More than £85,000 has already been raised through We Are Tamworth. This comprised £31,968 in council grants and £54,031 in donations and support from local backers.
Projects that have reached their fundraising targets include free football sessions for young people, radio broadcasting training, relationship education workshops for young women, arts and wellbeing projects supporting neurodiverse residents, community choir sessions, the Art of Tamworth Festival, a community farm sensory area and support for hygiene poverty.
How the funding works
The We Are Tamworth programme is part of the Building Better Communities strategy, supported by a £600,000 Government Community Recovery Fund award. Of this, £165,000 was allocated to the Spacehive programme — £90,000 for revenue projects and £75,000 for capital works.
Additional funding is available through a separate Community Infrastructure Levy pot accessed via Spacehive.
