Tamworth Castle is offering reduced children's admission this summer as part of the government's Great British Summer Savings initiative. From 25 June to 1 September 2026, children aged 2–15 will pay £8.30 instead of £9.50 for entry.
The discount comes from a temporary VAT reduction from 20% to 5% on children's tickets at attractions, cinemas, theatres and children's meals. The scheme is designed to help families afford more days out during the summer holidays.
Additional support is available in August, when children aged 5–15 in England can travel free on local bus services, making it easier for families to reach the castle and other attractions.
Blue Peter Badge Venue Status
Tamworth Castle became an official Blue Peter badge venue in January 2026. Children aged 5–15 who hold a valid Blue Peter badge ID card can visit the castle for free when accompanied by an adult. This offer applies to general admission only and does not include special ticketed events. The castle joins more than 200 UK attractions offering free entry to Blue Peter badge holders.
What to Expect at the Castle
The castle features exhibitions, interactive displays and stories spanning over 1,000 years of history. Visitors should note that some rooms or areas may be temporarily closed during their visit due to essential conservation work as part of the 'From the Motte to the Keep' restoration project.
Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, engagement, leisure and heritage, said the summer offers a "fantastic opportunity for families to discover Tamworth Castle" at a more affordable cost, and expressed pride in the Blue Peter badge venue status reflecting the educational experiences offered to young visitors.
