Tamworth residents with community project ideas can now apply for grants of up to £10,000 through the We Are Tamworth programme. The Tamworth Council scheme has over £130,000 still available to award, following the successful funding of nine projects earlier this year that raised a combined £84,491.
The funded projects in Tamworth have included free football sessions for young people, a new arts festival, a community choir, and workshops tackling relationship education and hygiene poverty. These initiatives show the range of community needs the We Are Tamworth scheme can support across the town.
Groups interested in securing funding must pitch their project on the Spacehive platform, secure at least 20 local backers willing to donate at least £2 each, and then Tamworth Council will top up the remaining funding. An online workshop is scheduled for July 7 for anyone considering an application.
Stephen Gabriel, the council's chief executive, described the scheme as community power in action. "Local people are best placed to know what their neighbourhoods need," he said. This approach puts decision-making directly in the hands of Tamworth residents themselves.
Anyone with an idea for a community project in Tamworth should book a place at the July 7 workshop to learn more about the application process and how to access the available funding.
