Three new community projects in Tamworth are now seeking donations through the We Are Tamworth crowdfunding platform. The initiatives range from creating a sensory zone at Glascote Community Farm to providing free theatre classes for children with additional needs. Residents can support these projects and help unlock additional council funding from a £165,000 government Community Recovery Fund pot.
Glascote Community Farm needs £1,467 to create a sensory zone and improve outdoor learning space for children and vulnerable adults. Be Limitless, a new theatre company, is seeking £8,355 to deliver free drama and dance classes to disabled youngsters across Tamworth. A third project from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will support over 100 volunteers protecting five nature reserves in the town.
The crowdfunding scheme works by matching local donations with council cash. Once a project receives at least 20 donations of £2 or more, it becomes eligible for top-up funding from the council's Community Recovery Fund. This approach ensures taxpayer money goes to projects with genuine community backing and support.
The platform has already delivered results. Since launching, nine Tamworth projects have been fully funded, raising nearly £85,000 in total. Local supporters contributed over £53,000 alongside council grants, demonstrating strong community engagement with the initiative.
