Tamworth Ladies Choir has helped raise around £650 for a children’s charity after joining two other singing groups for a concert on the Isle of Wight.
The Tamworth choir performed alongside Newchurch Male Voice Choir and the Mercian Singers at Christ Church in Totland during its visit to the island.
Organisers said the three groups each presented their own programme before coming together for the finale, which featured a joint performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Tamworth choir leads audience rain song
The concert also included an audience participation piece led by Tamworth Ladies Choir musical director Helen Griffiths.
She demonstrated a rain song in which audience members used their palms and fingers to recreate the sound of rain building from a drizzle to a downpour, followed by stamping feet to represent thunder.
The unusual performance was warmly received by the audience, according to the event organisers.
Concert supports Sophie’s Legacy
A retiring collection was held in aid of Sophie’s Legacy, a charity which supports families whose children are receiving hospital care. Organisers said approximately £650 would be donated following the concert.
Bob Cooper, from Newchurch Male Voice Choir, said:
“It was a pleasure to receive the request from Tamworth Ladies Choir for us to sing together.”
He also thanked Christ Church for hosting the concert and described the event as a successful collaboration between three different choirs.
The appearance gave Tamworth Ladies Choir an opportunity to perform for an Isle of Wight audience while supporting a charitable cause and sharing the programme with two other groups.
