Tamworth Borough Council has launched a formal Community Governance Review asking residents whether the town should have a borough-wide parish council. The consultation runs from Monday 29 June until Sunday 9 August 2026, giving local people six weeks to share their views on this significant decision for Tamworth's future.
A parish council would create a new local layer of government in Tamworth, handling matters including parks, allotments, community facilities and events. The service would be funded through an additional council tax charge on top of existing bills. The review comes as Tamworth faces major government reorganisation, and the council believes a parish council could strengthen local representation.
Carol Dean, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said the review is "about listening to the people of Tamworth and understanding what they want for the future of local governance in our town." She encouraged residents to learn about both the opportunities and implications before deciding whether to support the proposal. No decision has been made yet – the council is genuinely seeking local opinion.
Residents in Tamworth can have their say through an online survey or by attending consultation events across the borough. The council has set up a dedicated webpage at www.tamworth.gov.uk/cgr where people can complete the survey and find more information about the proposal.
