Tamworth residents, businesses and community organisations have two weeks left to share their views on whether the borough should have a parish council.
Tamworth Borough Council is asking people to take part in a formal Community Governance Review before the deadline of Sunday 9 August 2026. The review examines whether creating a parish council covering the whole of Tamworth would strengthen local representation and community involvement.
Why Now?
The review is taking place because the government has announced that Tamworth Borough Council will be replaced by one unitary authority covering South and Mid Staffordshire. This new council is expected to be established in April 2028.
What Is a Parish Council?
A parish council is a local, community-led tier of government that sits below the principal council. Parish councils typically focus on local matters such as parks, allotments, community facilities and local events. They are funded through a parish precept, which is an additional charge on council tax.
How to Participate
Residents can complete an online survey. A final consultation event is being held across the borough, following four events already held during the consultation period.
Carol Dean, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: "We've had some really insightful conversations with residents throughout this consultation, but if you haven't yet shared your views, there's still time. This is an important opportunity for people to help shape how local communities could be represented in the future."
Feedback received during the consultation will inform recommendations on whether a parish council should be established for Tamworth. If local people do show support, there will be a further consultation in September or October 2026 with firmer proposals about the parish council.
