Residents, businesses and stakeholders in Tamworth have one week left to submit comments on the borough's draft local plan. The formal six-week consultation closes on Monday 5 October 2026.
The local plan will set out the vision, policies and framework for how land across Tamworth will be used and developed through to 2043. It will guide decisions on planning applications, including what is built, where development takes place and which areas are protected.
What the plan covers
The draft plan addresses a wide range of issues that will shape the future of the borough. Key principles guiding the plan include making the best use of Tamworth's limited supply of land; delivering high quality, affordable homes to meet the community's diverse needs; supporting and diversifying the local economy; and regenerating the town centre into a thriving destination with a vibrant evening economy.
The plan covers housing and employment, the future of the town centre, heritage, infrastructure and the natural environment.
Background
This consultation is the latest stage in the preparation of the plan, following several months of engagement with residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders who have helped shape the plan from early conversations about priorities through to detailed feedback on specific policies and proposals.
How to have your say
Councillor Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homelessness and planning at Tamworth Borough Council, said: "There is now just one week left to have your say on the draft local plan, so I would encourage anyone with an interest in Tamworth's future to take a look at the document and submit their comments before the consultation closes."
"The decisions made through the planning process can have a lasting impact on our communities. Getting it right matters, and that means hearing from residents, businesses and community groups, not just planners."
Residents and stakeholders can view the draft local plan and supporting documents, and submit their comments via the council's website.
