Tamworth Borough Council is inviting residents and visitors to experience Tamworth Castle through a series of free creative workshops during August 2026. The workshops are included with castle admission and are inspired by the castle's ongoing conservation work and historic building fragments collected over decades.
Participants will work with four local artists to create artwork using sculpture, collage, etching, drawing and storytelling. Original fragments of the castle — including pieces of stone, brick, ironwork and architectural features that have fallen from the building over time — will inspire the creative activities. The workshops celebrate the generations of people who have built, repaired and cared for the castle over almost 1,000 years.
What's on offer
The drop-in workshops are free with castle admission and suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No previous artistic experience is needed.
Alongside the workshops, a brand-new medieval trail will run throughout August, offering another way to explore the castle's rich history. Castle volunteers will deliver weaponry demonstrations every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 26 August 2026.

As conservation work continues to protect this much-loved landmark for future generations, we're inviting visitors to look beyond the walls and discover the stories hidden within the castle's historic building fragments."
