Tamworth Castle has announced a programme of Halloween events running from 24 October to 1 November, including a new family adventure, gothic storytelling and evening ghost walks.
The Curse Beneath the Castle
The family trail runs from Saturday 24 October until Sunday 1 November. Visitors will search the castle for hidden “Magical Mason’s Marks”, solve a code and restore a fictional protective barrier disturbed during repair work.
The activity is included with general castle admission, priced at £11.95 for adults, £10.95 for older people, £9.95 for children aged two to 15, and free for children under two.
Frankenstein by candlelight
A theatrical retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein will take place in the Great Hall on Saturday 24 October from 7.30pm to 9pm.
The over-16s performance will combine storytelling, theatre, sound and candlelight. Tickets cost £18 and advance booking is required.
Ghost walks and zombie wargaming
The Wandering Spirits ghost walk returns on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, taking visitors through stories of plague, highwaymen and crime in Tamworth’s historic streets. Walks begin at 6.30pm and 8.30pm from Gatehouse Lodge, last around 90 minutes and cost £20. The event is for over-16s and must be booked in advance.
Tamworth Games Club will also host a zombie-themed day of tabletop wargaming in the Great Hall on Saturday 31 October from 11am to 3pm. Demonstrations are included with normal castle admission and visitors can watch or join in without a separate booking.
Councillor Lewis Smith, cabinet member for leisure and heritage, said the programme would give residents and visitors “a chance to experience [the castle] in a completely different way”.
