Tamworth Borough Council has launched a new place prospectus to showcase the borough as a destination for investment, development and business.
The prospectus highlights Tamworth's established business base, visitor economy, rich heritage and strategic location. The town is home to around 81,000 people and sits close to the M42, A5 and A38. Rail services connect Tamworth to Birmingham in 15 minutes and London Euston in just over an hour.
Recent Investment and Regeneration
More than £40 million has been invested in the town centre regeneration programme. This includes £21.6 million from the UK Government's Future High Streets Fund, alongside council and private investment.
Projects completed through this funding include St Editha's Square, Town Hall Place, Castle Gateway and the Elizabeth Bradford Business Centre. These have created new business spaces, improved the town centre environment and strengthened connections between key destinations.
Future Development Sites
The prospectus sets out three major opportunities for future investment: Ankerside, Gungate and Marmion House.
Ankerside is council-owned and represents a major opportunity to develop a diverse mix of retail, leisure and residential uses, with stronger connections to the River Anker, Castle Grounds and the wider town centre.
Gungate is a strategic regeneration site covering around 2.76 hectares, less than half a mile from Tamworth railway station. The emerging vision includes a strong housing focus alongside potential leisure, hotel, workspace and other uses.
Marmion House, a council-owned site in the town centre, is being explored as a residential opportunity. Feasibility and option work has already been undertaken, with further market engagement planned.

Councillor Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and the local economy, said: "Tamworth is a town with a strong identity, a resilient economy and a significant opportunity to build on the investment and regeneration already taking place."
Arkney added that the prospectus sets out the opportunities available for investors, developers and businesses who want to be part of Tamworth's future development.
