Tamworth town centre is set for a significant brightness improvement following a £140,629 investment in modern LED lighting. The council is replacing dated lighting systems across more than 100 installations, including the Castle Grounds and St Editha's Church. Work began at the end of April 2024 and is scheduled for completion by September 2026.

The upgrade will deliver multiple benefits beyond improved visibility. Energy-efficient LED systems will reduce power bills while making Tamworth's streets safer and more welcoming for shoppers, residents and businesses. Stephen Gabriel, the council's chief executive, described the project as evidence of Tamworth's commitment to being greener and more vibrant.

The council has prioritised keeping disruption to a minimum during the installation process. However, it is important to note that most of Tamworth's street lights are actually maintained by Staffordshire County Council, not the borough council. This particular upgrade only covers lighting systems owned and maintained by the borough council in the town centre.

The completion of this project by September 2026 will mark a transformative moment for Tamworth's town centre environment. The LED upgrades represent a practical step toward modernising local infrastructure while delivering long-term financial and environmental benefits to the community.
