Tamworth Borough Council has awarded the title of honorary alderwoman to former councillor Tina Clements in recognition of her dedicated public service. The honour was presented at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday 8 September.
Tina served as a councillor for four consecutive terms between 2010 and 2026. During this time, she held several important positions including Portfolio Holder and chair of multiple council committees. She was also appointed Mayoress for the 2012-13 municipal year.
Criteria for the honour
The title of honorary alderman or alderwoman is awarded to former councillors who have served the council for at least three consecutive terms, typically around 12 years.
Wider public service
Tina's public service extends beyond the borough council. She served as a county councillor for eight years, representing local people at both borough and county level.
Outside formal politics, Tina has supported the local community through a range of initiatives. She has organised events for International Women's Day and coordinated school uniform swap events, helping families access uniforms at no cost.
Tina is a former member of the armed forces and has continued her commitment to service through the Royal British Legion, where she served as chairperson.
Recognition from the mayor
The Mayor of Tamworth presented Tina with her alderwoman award, noting that she had "served her ward for 16 years very well" and stating that "the borough council owes their gratitude."
